When possible, I try to avoid fast food. I have this thought process that fast food is bad for you, should only be a treat, etc. So when I’m out & in a bind for something to eat, I go through a major guilt trip if I have to turn to fast food. (Please tell me I’m not the only one!)
These last minute trips to the McDonald’s, in addition to making me feel guilty, could also throw me out of ketosis & interrupt my diet success.
After doing major research, I realized that there are many on-the-go or fast food options that are Keto friendly. Surprising, I know!

A Few Tips + A Fast Food Trick
There are some smart ways to figure out your best options at a fast food place. Going bunless, saying no to croutons & not choosing any sugary options are obvious, but fast food places can hide carbs in seemingly harmless options. Did you know Taco Bell puts oats in their meat?! Like…y tho?
What Exactly Is Keto?
A low carb diet, also known as a ketogenic or keto diet, is a diet in which you typically eat fewer than 20-50 net grams of carbs per day. (Net carbs are when you subtract the amount of fiber per serving from the amount of carbs per serving)
If you are new to Keto, definitely check out my Keto 101 Guide here. It details what exactly keto is, what you should eat, grocery lists & more!
My Trusty On-The-Go Guide
I found the Mr. Skinnypants ebook & it has been a lifesaver! I keep this ebook on my phone in case I’m running around with limited food options. It has over 150 keto friendly fast food options with all macros listed out for you!
Inside the guide you’ll discover:
- 150+ keto fast food options from 25 popular fast food chains including McDonald’s, Subway, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, Wendy’s, Starbucks, KFC, etc.
- Instructions on how to modify your fast food orders to make them keto.
- Calorie, carb, protein, and fat counts so that you can stick to your keto macros.
For example, my favorite cheap breakfast option is “The $2 Keto Breakfast” aka Two Sausage Patties and Two Folded Eggs. Ask for two sausage patties and two folded eggs to be served on a plate, a la carte. It’s a better value than their breakfast sandwiches. Macros: 440 calories, 0g net carbs, 36g fat, and 24g protein.
Liked the fast food options? You’ll love these keto recipe ebooks!
If you are interested in starting a low carb or Keto diet take a look at my Keto 101 post here, check out my 7 Day Low Carb Meal Plan here, take a spin through my Pinterest page or click on an e-book below! Each ebook has 30 recipes with 5 ingredients & are 5 grams of net carbs or fewer! Talk about a no-brainer.
So you can choose 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, 1 dinner & 1 dessert from their Keto in Five cookbooks and know you’re under your daily carb limit for the day!
